Overall Maintenance Effectiveness

Unicist Scorecard Indicator

Information technology became a significant aspect in medical practice and thus IT services became a strategic component in the Healthcare Business, including both extreme specialized knowledge and standardized procedures. The Overall Maintenance Effectiveness (OME) indicator, developed at The Unicist Research Institute, allows benchmarking and improving IT maintenance processes. The assessment will save energy in the maintenance processes.

The Assessment process includes:
  • The Use of the Unicist Factbook to diagnose
  • The definition of the isometric maintenance activities
  • The definition of standards and benchmarks
  • The definition of maintenance improvement processes
  • A diagnosis, a strategy and an action plan to manage maintenance improvements
  • The conceptual design of an Overall Maintenance Effectiveness system
  • The assessment processes can be internally implemented in the organization using the Org-Lab technology or can be externally provided.

The Overall Maintenance Effectiveness is a Unicist Scorecard Indicator (USI)

The Overall Maintenance Effectiveness is a Unicist Scorecard Indicator (USI) that allows monitoring the effectiveness of maintenance.

The Overall Maintenance Effectiveness is defined by: OME = Reliability * Productivity * Quality

The core of the USIs is that they always measure at an operational level the aspects that deal with the reliability, productivity and quality of an activity. A USI defines the sustainability of an activity considering its competitive environment.

The Reliability of maintenance is defined by the relationship between the maintenance rendered on time and the total maintenance rendered.

The Productivity is defined by the relationship between the productive maintenance hours and the available maintenance hours.

The Quality is defined by the relationship between the flawless maintenance rendered and the total maintenance rendered.

The outsourcing of maintenance services requires knowing the OME of the providers.

History of the OME

The unicist object driven technologies were developed based on an ontological approach to complex adaptive systems (i.e. businesses). Their R&D began in 1976. Independently from this approach, the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) system, first implemented at Toyota, developed a measurement system that is homologous with the Unicist Scorecard system that includes the OME. We recommend comparing both. The Unicist Standard, which sustains the Unicist Scorecard, is the solution to manage adaptive systems in business. OME is the Unicist Scorecard application to measure benchmarks and improve maintenance processes.
