EMR Selection

EMR Selection

Choosing the Right Path

Summary
A large specialty group practice wanted to implement an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system at one of its locations to improve patient care, reduce overhead costs for medical records and transcription services, and improve the reimbursement process. The five physicians at this location requested assistance from The Weston Group to assist with the various phases of the project.

Weston was involved throughout the process from planning through implementation including selection of the system, project management and planning, implementation, post-implementation support and testing. Our 15-years of healthcare experience with clinical systems played a large role in securing a system that met the client's objectives of cost reduction and increased reimbursement.

Solution
Today, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems are everywhere. The challenge for physicians and administrators heading down this path is to determine the best system for their specific practice's needs.

Weston initially focused on understanding the specific objectives of this group of five physicians. Then, we worked with them to review the number of options and begin the evaluation process. As they reviewed their systems during the process, the group learned more about their own needs. Because of our experience in working with various systems in live group practices, we were able to accelerate and streamline this process. The result of this project was the selection of the GE Centricity CPS EMR system.

After selection, Weston assisted in negotiating the contract, developing the infrastructure for hardware, and establishing the networking and facilities plan. We served as the project manager for implementation and also provided post-go-live support. Throughout the process, we worked with a variety of vendors to ensure success including the testing of interfaces to the various systems.

Benefit
There are many types of EMR systems in the market and a practice can spend a great deal of time reviewing options that turn out to be dead ends. Weston's involvement in the EMR selection process helped the group to streamline the initial workload of EMR implementation by focusing on specific practice needs and skipping blind alleys.

We are experienced in working with physicians and know that they each have their own individual experience and opinions. By leveraging on our expertise and utilizing a workflow plan that is proven successful, we helped this group to stay focused and implement a system that met patient care, labor cost and reimbursement objectives.
